North Rhine-Westphalia: fire brigade discovered hemp plants during extinguishing work

Essen (dpa / lnw) - Firefighters discovered numerous hemp plants during extinguishing work in an empty building in Essen. The building in the Kray district was apparently used as a warehouse for various things, said a spokesman for the fire brigade on Thursday afternoon. During the extinguishing work, the emergency services had broken open several doors in the approximately 450 square meter building. They also came across the plants. There were no injuries in the fire.

The fire had triggered a large-scale operation by the fire brigade on Thursday. The fire brigade spokesman said there was "massive smoke" above the former pub at noon. A warning to residents to keep doors and windows closed was lifted in the afternoon. The building should be handed over to the police after the extinguishing work has been completed, the fire brigade said.
