North Rhine-Westphalia: Hundreds demonstrate against Russian missile attacks

Cologne (dpa/lnw) - After the deadly Russian rocket attacks on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, hundreds of people demonstrated against the bombings in Cologne on Monday evening. The organizer, the German-Ukrainian Blue-Yellow Cross Association, announced that they want to show solidarity with Ukraine and are demanding maximum and rapid support from the federal government.

Russia fired more than 80 rockets at Ukrainian cities on Monday morning. At least 11 people died and more than 80 were injured.

All of the bombs hit civilians, said the association's deputy chairwoman, Julia Chenusha. After the attacks, the rally called "Stop Russia. Stop Genocide" was called at short notice. The association called for Ukraine to be equipped "with all the necessary weapons, including tanks and air defense systems", to strengthen economic sanctions against Russia and to support Ukraine's accelerated accession process to NATO and the EU.
