Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In North Rhine-Westphalia, the corona incidence was 279.8 on Wednesday, according to the Robert Koch Institute. The day before, the RKI had reported 265.5 new infections within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants. The NRW index was thus higher than the national average, which was 231.2 on Wednesday. Within 24 hours, 13,288 confirmed new infections and 44 deaths related to the corona virus were added in NRW. A week ago (December 7th), the incidence in NRW was 236.5.
However, the information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections. Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.
