Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - A man caused a rear-end collision on the Autobahn 44 near Jüchen near Neuss on Friday evening, then fled in the car of a first responder and had an accident with it a little later. The 56-year-old passenger of the first aider, who suffered serious injuries in the accident and had to be taken to a hospital, was still in the getaway vehicle, the Düsseldorf motorway police said.
The 30-year-old man who caused both accidents fled on foot after the second crash, but was arrested after a search with the help of a police helicopter and taken to a hospital. A blood sample was taken from him on suspicion of taking illicit substances.
According to the investigation, the man on the A44 first drove into the car of a 69-year-old and then got into the vehicle parked by the first responder, in which the 56-year-old passenger was still sitting.
