Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The number of employees in the municipal health service increased significantly during the corona pandemic in North Rhine-Westphalia. In the middle of last year, a total of 9,310 people were employed in the health services of the municipalities in NRW, around 64 percent more than a year earlier, the State Statistical Office IT.NRW reported on Monday.

While the number of staff in this area fell by 0.3 percent between 2012 and the pre-corona year 2019, it rose by 9.5 percent between 2019 and 2020. The health services include the health authorities.

Of the 9,310 employees, more than 40 percent had a temporary contract in mid-2021. A year earlier, only 9.1 percent of the jobs were fixed-term contracts.

According to the statisticians, the total number of municipal staff was 286,840 in mid-2021, 4.9 percent higher than in the previous year.
