North Rhine-Westphalia: NRW inflation rate rises to 8.3 percent

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Inflation in North Rhine-Westphalia has risen slightly. The inflation rate was 8.3 percent in January, 0.2 points higher than in December, the state statistics office announced on Wednesday. In October 2022, inflation was 9.4 percent. After that, the value fell two months in a row. The fact that inflation is now picking up again is mainly due to energy costs: compared to December, district heating was on average around a quarter and gas a sixth more expensive. Consumers also had to dig a little deeper into their pockets for groceries than in December (plus 1.6 percent).
