North Rhine-Westphalia: oxygen mask catches fire: residents seriously injured

Mettmann (dpa / lnw) - A retirement home resident was seriously injured in Mettmann near Düsseldorf because his oxygen mask caught fire. The 65-year-old was flown to a special clinic in Duisburg with a rescue helicopter on Saturday, the Mettmann fire department said. The emergency services were alerted via the automatic fire alarm system. The staff had already extinguished the fire on the oxygen mask before the fire brigade arrived. After first aid, the patient was transported from the retirement home via a turntable ladder and taken to the rescue helicopter in the parking lot.
