North Rhine-Westphalia: Police remind drivers of open fuel bills

Hamm (dpa / lnw) - The police do not experience so much remorse every day: The officials were alerted on Tuesday because a customer at a gas station drove away after filling up without paying. A patrol car from the highway police discovered the vehicle they were looking for a little later on the A2 near Hamm. With "Please follow" signs, they guided the driver to the edge. The 38-year-old was visibly contrite.

When the police waved him out, he suddenly remembered that he had forgotten to pay at the gas station. He went to the toilet after refueling and got an important phone call during that time. As a result, he was so deep in his thoughts that he simply got back in the car and drove off.

The 38-year-old immediately made his way back to the gas station after the police check and paid the outstanding amount, the police said on Wednesday. But that didn't save the man from reporting.
