North Rhine-Westphalia: Police shots in Dortmund: Wüst urges prudence

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) called for "prudence to prevail" in the case of the 16-year-old who was shot by the police in Dortmund. The investigative authorities are working flat out to "completely clarify the matter," Wüst told journalists in Düsseldorf on Friday. The authorities must now be given the time until the facts are "completely clear".

The 16-year-old refugee from Senegal was shot dead by a police officer in the courtyard of a youth welfare facility almost two weeks ago. According to the investigation so far, despite the use of pepper spray and tasers, he approached the officers with a knife in the courtyard of a youth welfare facility. A police officer stationed for security had fired his submachine gun six times, five bullets hit the youth.

The public prosecutor's office in Dortmund and the uninvolved police in Recklinghausen are investigating. The incident is to be dealt with in the main committee of the state parliament on Tuesday.
