North Rhine-Westphalia: racing cyclist falls and is critically injured

Alpen (dpa / lnw) - A 66-year-old racing cyclist fell near Alpen (Wesel district) and was life-threateningly injured. He was flown to a clinic in a rescue helicopter on Saturday, police said. It was initially unclear how the fall on a cycle path on federal highway 57 in the direction of Rheinberg came about. Despite wearing a helmet, the man suffered serious head injuries, police said.
