Gelsenkirchen (dpa / lnw) - FC Schalke 04 is about to say goodbye to Victor Pálsson. The 31-year-old midfielder, top performer and vice-captain in the promotion season is about to move to the United States. He is already at the MLS club in Washington D.C. for negotiations and investigations. Pálsson's contract with the newly promoted Bundesliga club runs for another year. Sports director Peter Knäbel confirmed this on Sunday at the official season opening.
"If things work out with Victor Pálsson and Washington, then the squad will slowly get the contours it needs," said Knäbel. Further transfers are not excluded. "We know that we still have to do something. But we also know that we can still do something," said Knäbel.
Financially, the heavily indebted club is also making progress, according to CFO Christina Rühl-Hamers. The rise didn't solve all the problems, but: "We're on the right track," said Rühl-Hamers.
