North Rhine-Westphalia: search for missing people with divers and sonar devices

Porta Westfalica (dpa / lnw) - With divers, a special boat and sonar devices, the police continued the search for two missing people in a quarry pond in Porta Westfalica on Wednesday. A 26-year-old woman from Bad Oeynhausen and a 27-year-old man from Löhne disappeared on Sunday while bathing in the quarry pond.

After that, a large-scale search was launched with numerous rescue workers from the fire brigade, DLRG and police, as well as drones and search dogs on the company premises, which were actually closed to the public - but so far without success.

The gravel lake, in which the search with underwater probes by a technical police unit from Bochum continued on Wednesday, is said to be up to 30 meters deep in some places. According to witness reports, 60 to 70 relatives of the two missing persons followed the search from the bank on Wednesday. They brought tents, tables and chairs to the alleged accident site.

According to witnesses, the woman and man had been spotted on air mattresses on the water. For reasons still unknown, they appeared to have gotten into trouble and sunk, police had said. Calls for help were also reported. Her clothes had been found on the shore.
