Cologne (dpa / lnw) - The background to the shots at a woman in the parking lot of a tennis club in Cologne is said to be a relationship story. The 54-year-old suspect is strongly suspected of having fired several shots at the girlfriend of his partner who is separated from him on Sunday, the Cologne public prosecutor said on Monday. The girlfriend is said to have helped the former partner in the separation.

The man is suspected of having "ambushed the completely unsuspecting victims in the parking lot of the tennis club and shot them insidiously and with the intent to kill". The woman was hit several times in the leg, but not critically injured. According to the prosecutor's office, he has requested an arrest warrant for attempted murder. The man is said to have been drunk at the time of the crime and denies the crime, according to investigators.
