Selm/Münster (dpa/lnw) - On the occasion of the 900th birthday of the Staufer Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa, the LWL Museum for Art and Culture traces the life of the dazzling figure in two places. The exhibition "Barbarossa. The Art of Rule" begins at Cappenberg Castle in Selm (Unna district) this Wednesday. Until February 2023, connections between the monastery and the emperor in the 12th century will be traced along around 60 exhibits. Count Otto von Cappenberg was Barbarossa's godfather in 1122. He contributed to the rise of the Barbarossa family to royal and imperial dignity, it was said on Monday at the presentation of the first show "The Legacy of Cappenberg".
From October 28, the exhibition "Barbarossa. The Art of Rule" will follow in the LWL Museum for Art and Culture in Münster. Valuable loans from London, Paris and Copenhagen can also be seen there. The two exhibitions complement each other, as the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe (LWL) emphasized. In Münster, the focus is on the historical figure of Barbarossa as Emperor of the German-Roman Empire and his work through the art of the 12th century.
