North Rhine-Westphalia: Water shut off after pipe burst: Thousands affected

Werdohl (dpa / lnw) - After a water pipe burst in Werdohl (Märkischer Kreis), several thousand people are without water for the time being. "The fire department and the city are working flat out to solve the problem," the police said on Twitter. A police spokesman reported that the leak occurred on a line on private property on Monday evening for reasons that are still unclear. After that, the main water line had to be turned off. Half of the city is affected or partially affected, i.e. around 9000 people.

According to the spokesman, massive water had poured out of the leak. Work was underway to reseal the damaged line. It is hoped that this could be completed during the night, said the spokesman. It is still unclear whether the damage to the line was caused by the weather, whether fatigued material or construction work played a role.
