A stranger on a bus, little dialogue and an unconventional editing technique: That's all the Australian psychological thriller "The Stranger" needs to be remembered. It is obvious that this will not please everyone.
Henry Teague, brilliantly played by British character actor Sean Harris, is quiet and taciturn, his body language is that of a shy predator. When Henry meets a man on the bus on his way home, undercover agent Mark, played just as impressively by Joel Edgerton, begins a journey to the limit of psychological stress.
The Australian thriller "The Stranger" doesn't even try to please a mass audience. Director and screenwriter Thomas M. Wright relies on unconventional editing techniques, menacing sounds and disturbing imagery from the very first minute. The fact that his second directorial work is based on a true crime makes "The Stranger" all the more depressing.
