The average diesel liter cost in France rose to more than 2 euros per liter last week, despite the 18 cents government rebate at the pump. According to Friday's figures by the Ministry of Ecological Transition it reached 2.694 euros per gallon between June 4th and June 10, a more than 10 cent increase over the previous week.
Diesel had already crossed this symbolic threshold in March and was still at its peak in March. It then fell again. It had been increasing for the past two weeks. It was at 1.9615 euros per annum at the beginning June.
The gasoline price, which was at a record 2.1012 euros per gallon on average between May 30 and June 3, but is now stable at 2.0960 euros, remains stable. Already, the SP98 has exceeded 2 euros per month. It was 2.1989 euros in France last week.
This rise comes amid rising energy prices, war in Ukraine, supply problems, and runaway inflation as the European Union prepares for a halt to oil purchases and Russian diesel.
