Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Saxony-Anhalt is preparing for the winter: According to the Ministry of Transport, around 28,000 tons of road salt and 1800 tons of brine are already stored in the state's road maintenance depots. In Körbelitz (Jerichower Land district), for example, employees were busy replenishing supplies on Thursday. According to the information, more than 760 emergency services and 293 clearing and gritting vehicles are available nationwide to keep Saxony-Anhalt's roads free of snow and ice if necessary.

According to the ministry, an average of 2.7 tons of road salt per kilometer was distributed on federal roads last winter. On country roads it was almost 2.2 tons per kilometer. The country spent around 2.3 million euros on road salt and brine. Almost 2,000 kilometers of federal roads and 3,900 kilometers of state roads lead through Saxony-Anhalt.
