Saxony-Anhalt: aid money for artists remains

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, several state aid programs for the cultural scene in the corona pandemic were not fully utilized. This emerges from the response of the state government to a small request from the state parliament member Holger Hövelmann (SPD). According to the Ministry of Culture, there was no complete outflow of funds in any of the three programs.

There were 1,612 applications for emergency aid for artists in 2020, of which 917 were approved. The available application volume was 700,000 euros, 366,400 euros were paid out. For "Kultur ans Netz I" in 2020, the available volume was six million euros. Of this, 1.32 million euros were paid out. For "Culture on the Net II" in 2021, 4.5 million euros were available, 2.63 million euros were awarded.

As of this year, funds for culture are also earmarked as part of the Corona special fund. The state government formed the pot to cushion the consequences of the pandemic. Almost 2.8 million euros are available for "funding for freelance artists and solo self-employed in the cultural sector". The corresponding funding guideline is to be published in the next few weeks.
