Halberstadt (dpa/sa) - Alternating between words and music: The act of baptism is the focus of the start of the series "Bild Ton Kunst" in Halberstadt. After the opening of the event year on Wednesday, according to Domschatz Halberstadt, further "Bild Ton Kunst" dates with different focal points are planned until the end of the year. Museum director Uta-Christiane Bergemann and church music director Claus-Erhard Heinrich start, taking a look at the baptismal sites in the cathedral, in the winter church and in the St. Martini church. Heinrich "illustrated" the reflections with organ, piano and recorder, it was said.
The special feature: the Romanesque baptismal font made of Rübeland marble is said to be one of the oldest surviving objects in the cathedral. He is still in use today. While the baptismal font is placed in the western entrance area in accordance with the tradition of the Catholic Church, the bronze baptismal font is located in the winter church in Protestant tradition next to the altar.
The city of Halberstadt commemorates the persecution of Anabaptism 500 years ago this year. The Harz city is hosting the Ecumenical Day on March 17th and 18th, which is intended to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Anabaptist movement.
