Saxony-Anhalt: Brocken garden shows flowers at the end of the season

Wernigerode (dpa/sa) - The visitor season in the botanical garden on the Brocken ends with a play of colours. Gentian species such as the budgerigar gentian are currently blooming. At the same time, other plants appear in autumnal brown tones, as a spokesman for the Hartz National Park announced on Tuesday. According to the information, around 1,500 plants from the high mountains of the world grow in the Brocken Garden under special climatic conditions. These include unique plants such as the Brocken hawkweed or the Brocken anemone.

The teaching and research garden on the 1141 meter high mountain has been there since 1890. Around 2200 people have visited the Brockengarten this year. According to the national park administration, Friday (October 14) will be the last tour of the year. The visitor season in the botanical garden usually lasts from spring to autumn.
