Magdeburg/Berlin (dpa/sa) - Bodenverwertungs- und -verwaltungs GmbH (BVVG) sold around 295 hectares of agricultural land and 5 hectares of forest in Saxony-Anhalt in 2022. In addition, there are another 40 hectares that have been rededicated, among other things, for construction, infrastructure or trade, as the state-owned company announced on Tuesday in Berlin. A total of around 1,920 hectares of BVVG land came under the hammer in the five eastern federal states last year. In addition, around 650 hectares were made available for the construction of wind turbines.
The BVVG, which after German reunification had the task of privatizing forest and farmland from former East German state property, concluded around 2,000 new leases for around 21,000 hectares of farmland and grassland. Of this, 13,800 hectares went to organic farms. The reorientation in the leasing of agricultural BVVG land to ecologically and sustainably managed companies, which has been in place since December 2021, has thus been successfully implemented, said BVVG Managing Director Thomas Windmöller, according to a press release. The proportion of leased areas for organic farming has increased to 22 percent. The average size of the newly leased lots was 10.4 hectares.
The average lease price of the BVVG is currently 447 euros per hectare and has remained almost stable for the third year in a row after 448 euros in 2021 and 446 euros in 2020. In Saxony-Anhalt, the lease prices remained constant compared to 2021 at 584 euros per hectare. The leased area in the federal state is now 18,500 hectares.
