Saxony-Anhalt: Commemoration and solidarity actions for the Ukraine

Magdeburg/Halle (dpa/sa) - On the occasion of the anniversary of the Russian war of aggression, which violates international law, numerous expressions of solidarity with Ukraine are planned for Friday in Saxony-Anhalt. There are rallies, peace rallies in many parishes and roundtables. The Peace Commissioner of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany, Regional Bishop Friedrich Kramer, wants to discuss this with students from the Elisabeth-Gymnasium in Halle (12.00 p.m.). In Magdeburg, the German-Ukrainian Association of Saxony-Anhalt and the Ukrainian Association of Refugees "Magdeburg helps Ukrainians" called for a rally on the cathedral square (3 p.m.).

As a sign of solidarity, the Ukrainian flag will also be flying on Friday at the office buildings of the state of Saxony-Anhalt. If there are three masts, they should be set next to the federal flag and the state flag, as the Ministry of the Interior announced.

According to the local authorities, around 29,700 war refugees from Ukraine have been taken in directly in the rural districts and urban districts in the past twelve months, including at least 2,700 children of kindergarten age and around 7,000 children of school age, according to the Interior Ministry.
