Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, the commission of inquiry into public broadcasting in the state parliament started its work on Friday. Various reform options are to be discussed in the committee. The Commission can only work successfully if its own ideas are effectively introduced, said State Parliament President Gunnar Schellenberger (CDU).
In the first meeting on Friday, mainly formalities were clarified. Initially, the focus should be on legal issues and scientific support. The next meeting will take place on March 30th. The chairman of the commission is the deputy Chris Schulenburg (CDU). In addition to the final report, an interim report is to be submitted to Parliament every year, for the first time before the 2024 summer break.
The commission is entitled "Strengthening confidence in public service broadcasting through transparency and the will to reform". In the justification for the application for appointment, it was said that "the current acceptance values for public broadcasting are a dangerous sign of a loss of confidence in our free-democratic basic order". Among other things, the Commission is to work out to what extent the control function of the broadcasting bodies can be strengthened.
