Halle (dpa/sa) - The annual inflation rate in October in Saxony-Anhalt is expected to be in the double digits again. This was announced by the State Statistical Office on Friday. According to the statisticians' first estimate, the rate was 10.5 percent.

On average, consumers had to spend 20.3 percent more money on food and non-alcoholic beverages than a year ago. Edible fats and oils (plus 49.7 percent), dairy products and eggs (plus 32.5 percent), vegetables (plus 22.5 percent) and meat and meat products (plus 20.2 percent) have become particularly expensive compared to the same month last year. Only for fruit (plus 5.6) and mineral water, lemonades and juices (plus 8.3) are the price increases clearly below average.

Energy prices also remained high in October 2022. 47.1 percent more was due for electricity, gas and other fuels than in October 2021. Compared to September, consumer prices in Saxony-Anhalt increased by a total of 0.8 percent.
