Saxony-Anhalt: Corona incidence in Saxony-Anhalt continues to decline

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The corona infection process has calmed down further in Saxony-Anhalt. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) registered 507.2 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the country for the past seven days, as the RKI dashboard showed on Thursday. A week earlier, the incidence had been 669.8 and was already declining. Nationwide, the seven-day incidence on Thursday was 493.4. However, this information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections.

Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.

Within Saxony-Anhalt, the registered incidence of infection differs significantly. According to the RKI, the incidence in the Altmark district of Salzwedel was 663.5 on Thursday. In the district of Wittenberg, on the other hand, the lowest value in the country was found with 379.4 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week.

According to the RKI, 899,306 infections have been registered nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic. The statistics show a total of 5837 deaths in connection with a corona infection in the country. Saxony-Anhalt has around 2.17 million inhabitants.
