Tangerhütte (dpa/sa) - The Stendal district has revoked the zoo permit for the Weißewarte wildlife park and ordered its closure on November 6th. According to the competent supervisory authority, this is associated with the order to liquidate the animal population. The reason is the lack of proof of staff to provide the animals with expert care, it said on Friday.
The head of the previous operating company in municipal sponsorship and some animal keepers had resigned. If the city of Tangerhütte, as the owner of the animals, is not able to ensure the supply, the district prepares for a substitute performance by service providers if necessary. The owner has to bear the costs for this.
The city of Tangerhütte continues to strive to preserve the wildlife park. After the operating company failed, the plant in the Stendal district is now to be handed over to a private operator. The highly indebted municipality can neither take over the management permanently nor inject further money.
"We have a responsibility and we want to take it on too," said Tangerhütte Mayor Andreas Brohm (independent). There are already interested parties for a private takeover. Whether and in what form the facility can be continued is still an open question.
On Wednesday, the city council will discuss an interim solution for the care of the animals. According to the district, a corresponding certificate of competence is also required for this. According to the current status, the park will probably be open to visitors for the last time on November 5th. After that he should go on vacation anyway.
