Saxony-Anhalt: Fewer overnight stays in Saxony-Anhalt

Halle (dpa/sa) - Fewer visitors during the main holiday season: Fewer guests stayed in Saxony-Anhalt in August 2022 than in the same month last year. This was announced by the State Statistical Office on Wednesday. According to preliminary results, around 936,000 overnight stays were registered, which was 5.1 percent less than in the same month last year. The majority of the guests (91.3 percent) came from Germany. Nevertheless, a significant increase of 42.8 percent in overnight stays was recorded for guests from abroad.

The average length of stay of the guests was reportedly 2.6 days. There was an increase in training centers as well as in youth hostels and huts. The number of overnight stays in hotels, inns, pensions, convalescent and holiday homes and holiday centers, among others, declined.

Only one of the five travel areas in Saxony-Anhalt had more guests and overnight stays in August 2022 compared to the same month last year. In the Magdeburg/Elbe/Börde/Heide region, for example, there was an 8.9 percent increase in guest arrivals and 8.1 percent in overnight stays. The regions of Halle/Saale/Unstrut, Anhalt/Wittenberg, Altmark and Harz/Harzvorland posted a drop in overnight stays. In the Harz Mountains, the decline was particularly clear at 13.3 percent.
