Halle/Assen (dpa/sa) - The approximately 3,600-year-old "Nebra Sky Disc" is being shown for the first time in the Netherlands. Together with other unique finds from Saxony-Anhalt, the bronze disc will be exhibited in the Drents Museum in Assen from August 6 (until September 18, 2022), said a spokesman for the State Office for Archeology in Halle. The sky disk was previously on display in London in a highly acclaimed show. In the Art and Cultural History Museum in Assen in the Dutch province of Drenthe, archaeological exhibits from Saxony-Anhalt are shown, which were once symbols of the power of the rulers, such as a decorated axe.
The "Nebra Sky Disc" is considered to be the oldest representation of concrete celestial phenomena worldwide. In 2013, the bronze disc was included in the "Memory of the World" register of the UN cultural organization Unesco.
