Saxony-Anhalt: Higher demand: chemical producer starts production

Schkopau (dpa/sa) - The chemical producer Synthos in Schkopau (Saalekreis) is putting a plant for the production of butadiene rubber back into operation. The recommissioning is, among other things, a reaction to the increased demand, especially from the tire industry, the company announced on Friday in Schkopau. According to a spokesman, production was stopped in June 2020 for economic reasons.

Preparations have been made since last year to resume production. In the future, up to 30,000 tons of the synthetic rubber will be produced in Schkopau every year. According to the company, it has hired 40 new employees for this purpose.

The company employs a total of around 3,600 people. In addition to rubber, Synthos also produces plastics and pesticides at a total of six locations. The company is headquartered in Oświęcim, Poland.
