Saxony-Anhalt: More entitlements to participate in integration courses

Around 28,700 people from Ukraine have been admitted to Saxony-Anhalt's municipalities since February. Many refugees are now taking part in integration courses.

Magdeburg/Nuremberg (dpa/sa) - Around 4,900 Ukrainians have started an integration course in Saxony-Anhalt so far this year. This was announced by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (Bamf) in Nuremberg when asked by dpa. According to the information, the number was 4,000 at the beginning of October and 2,200 at the beginning of August – so it has more than doubled since then. According to Bamf, around 6,800 people have started an integration course in Saxony-Anhalt, regardless of their country of origin. According to the information, about 14,000 entitlements to participate in such courses were granted in the previous year.

According to the Federal Office, it can take a certain amount of time before the right course is found, which is why the start of the course is often delayed after the authorization and the placement test have been issued.

According to the information, integration courses consist of a total of 700 hours. The language part makes up 600 hours, the other 100 hours are about values, the legal system or the social system.

The courses are put together according to the respective language level and are aimed at all immigrants - regardless of their origin. Only adults attend these integration courses, while school attendance is compulsory for minors in Germany. There are numerous educational opportunities there.

According to the Saxony-Anhalt municipalities, around 28,700 war refugees from the Ukraine have so far been taken directly into the administrative districts and urban districts, according to statistics published by the Ministry of the Interior. Among them are at least 2775 children in kindergarten and about 6900 children of school age.
