Saxony-Anhalt: Prime Minister Haseloff throttles the company car speed

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - Saxony-Anhalt's Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) voluntarily slows down his company car to save energy. For a good two weeks now, Haseloff has only been able to drive on the motorway at a maximum of 130 km/h, a government spokesman said on Saturday. When asked at what speed the company car was otherwise traveling, it was said: "Faster". The throttling of the pace is noticeable. For a recording of Markus Lanz's ZDF talk show in Hamburg, one tank was last enough for the return trip. The "Spiegel" had reported on the austerity measures.

According to the spokesman, Haseloff adheres to a guideline that has recently applied to all employees of the State Chancellery. Company cars should generally not be driven faster than 130 km/h. First, however, it should be checked whether business trips can be replaced by video conferences or whether a trip by bus or train is possible.

Next Tuesday, the cabinet wants to decide on the savings plans for the state government, authorities and properties in view of steadily rising energy prices and a possible emergency in the gas supply.
