Saxony-Anhalt: Prince singer Krumbiegel receives the Lionheart Peace Prize

Leipzig/Leonberg (dpa/sa) - The Leipzig-born singer of the band Die Prinzen, Sebastian Krumbiegel, is to be awarded the Lionheart Peace Prize this year. The Human Projects organization said on Saturday in Leonberg, Baden-Württemberg (Böblingen district), that he had made an outstanding contribution to peace and reconciliation. In addition to Krumbiegel, the journalist Gabriele Krone-Schmalz, who was born in Lam in the Bavarian Forest, is also to be honored.

Through his personal commitment, Krumbiegel stands for a strong democracy and diversity, it said. "We need all of this in view of the great challenges of our time: The increasingly fragile cohesion of society as a whole, climate change, the energy crisis and the worldwide armed conflicts." According to the organization, Krone-Schmalz is being honored, among other things, for helping to shape the future of Europe together with many others in the interests of the people.

After the winners were announced, Krumbiegel was delighted with the award. "When I think about who has already received the award - Mikhail Gorbachev and the Dalai Lama - it's really cool," he told the German Press Agency. Of course, prices always make you feel nauseous. "But they also make sure that you keep going," said the 56-year-old. The award ceremony is scheduled for November 19 in Leipzig.
