Saxony-Anhalt: Scholarships for a Hungarian university

Uelzen/Magdeburg/Pécs (dpa/sa) - The Saxony-Anhalt Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists wants to bind young doctors to the state through scholarships. A total of 70 applications were received for a funding program with studies at the Hungarian University of Pécs from the winter semester 2022/23, according to a spokesman for the KZV. According to the information, eleven students of the first scholarship year are currently being supported over the course of ten semesters of standard study time. The program is initially designed for five years up to and including the start of studies in the winter semester 2026/27. This will enable up to 60 young people to study dentistry. Unlike in Germany, you don't have to have a top-level diploma; you can also study with an average grade of up to 2.6.

The tuition fees of 7720 euros per semester and study place are fully covered. In return, the scholarship holders undertake to work as dentists in Saxony-Anhalt for at least five years after completing their studies. The background is a wave of retirements among dentists in Saxony-Anhalt. From the point of view of the KZV, there is a risk of supply bottlenecks because not enough practice successors can be found. Several municipalities that see bottlenecks coming up are participating in what are known as combined grants.

The application period for funding from the start of studies in the winter semester 2023/24 runs until February 15.
