Saxony-Anhalt: Second Picasso exhibition opens in Halle for visitors

Halle (dpa/sa) - The second exhibition on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) is starting in Halle this year. After the opening of "Encounter. Pablo Picasso Meets Jean Lurçat" on Friday in the Kunsthalle Talstrasse, the show will be presented until May 29th. The Minister of State and Minister of Culture, Rainer Robra (CDU), who is the patron together with the French Ambassador to Germany, François Delattre, is expected at the vernissage.

According to the organizing Kunstverein Talstrasse, the exhibition provides insights into Picasso's extensive graphic work, which was created in various phases of life and creativity. It is linked and related to the graphic works and ceramics of Jean Lurçat (1892-1966).

The artists worked in the ceramic workshops of Sant Vicens near Perpignan, sources said. Working with and on ceramics was a focus of both of their activities in the 1950s and 1960s. According to the association, 60 Picasso graphics from the Helmut Klewan collection and just as many ceramics by Lurçat from the Paul Ludwig Foundation collection will be on display.

The exhibition "The Other Picasso: Back to the Origins" has been open to visitors at the Moritzburg Art Museum since February 26. Around 100 works from public and private collections in Spain will be on display until May 21st. Picasso (1881-1973) is considered one of the most important modern artists. April 8 marks the 50th anniversary of his death.
