Dresden (dpa/sn) - The seven-day incidence in Saxony was 194.7 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants on Thursday. This emerges from the overview of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). A week earlier, the corona infection rate was 215.0. Nationwide, it also fell from 289.6 from the previous week to 262.3 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
Experts have been assuming for some time that the value does not fully reflect the infection situation because not all infected people have a PCR test done, but only those with a PCR test count in the statistics.
In a regional comparison, the infection rate in the Free State was most recently highest in the city of Leipzig (239.6) and lowest in the district of Görlitz (139.0). According to the RKI, almost 1.88 million infections have been reported in Saxony since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 - with just over four million inhabitants. 16,268 people have died from or with a Sars-CoV-2 infection.
