Dresden (dpa/sn) - The administrative court in Dresden will decide on March 23 on lawsuits against the Dresden mayoral election. According to a spokesman for the court, three hearings are scheduled for that day. The "Sächsische Zeitung" had previously reported.
Dirk Hilbert (FDP) emerged victorious in last year's election. One of the proceedings at the administrative court will deal with formal errors that are said to have happened when Hilbert was nominated as a candidate. Two other lawsuits revolve around possible glitches in postal voting. The aim is to clarify whether errors in sending individual election documents violated the regulations and thereby influenced the result of the election.
Several Dresdeners had contacted the Saxony State Directorate last summer and contested the election. According to the court spokesman, the state directorate rejected the objections because from the point of view of the authority "even in the sum of all errors" a different outcome of the election could be ruled out.
If the lawsuits at the administrative court are successful, the city of Dresden would have to declare the election invalid, it said.
