Saxony: Königstein Fortress gets new managing director

Königstein (dpa/sn) - The Königstein Fortress in Saxon Switzerland is getting a new managing director. A spokeswoman for the fortress announced on Tuesday that André Thieme will take over management duties from September 1st. Thieme succeeds Angelika Taube, who held the post for around 30 years and is now retiring.

The "lapide regis", first mentioned in a document in 1241, is one of Saxony's most popular excursion destinations. The medieval Bohemian royal castle was later a monastery, state fortress, courtly festival site, art depot and prison. The 9.5-hectare fortress area has been an open-air museum since 1955 and has been state property since reunification.
