Saxony: Meier: Free State must be a role model for equality

Dresden (dpa/sn) - From the point of view of Minister Katja Meier (Greens), the Free State must do more justice to its role model for equality in Saxony. "Daughters and sons learn that women are paid equally for the same work, that they are equally represented in committees and at the upper career levels, that they have a say and have an equal voice," she said on Tuesday, according to a statement on World Day of the Girl. Women are still underrepresented at higher career levels, "even where they make up the majority of employees" such as in the public sector.

Meier still sees a lot of work to ensure that girls have the same opportunities as boys. "It is still mostly women who work part-time and do unpaid care work." Targeted support through education and for equality in all areas of life, even among girls and young women, is therefore necessary. According to the ministry, a total of around 27 million euros from EU and state funds will be available by the end of 2027 so that women can make even better use of their potential and girls can choose their profession free of stereotypes.
