Saxony: More than 15,000 smuggled cigarettes in the back seat of the car

Bad Muskau (dpa/sn) - Hidden in the back seat of a car, two men tried to smuggle 15,600 cigarettes from Poland to Germany. Federal police and customs managed to secure 78 poles in the vehicle near Bad Muskau (Görlitz district) on Monday. The main customs office in Dresden put the tax damage at more than 3,500 euros on Tuesday. According to the information, the officials noticed something on the back seat when checking the trunk. There was a built-in hiding place for cigarette smuggling. Criminal proceedings had been initiated against the driver for tax evasion, it said.
