Leipzig/Dresden (dpa/sn) - The notorious illegal parking in the course of a neighborhood dispute has cost a Leipzig resident dearly. The Higher Regional Court rejected the man's appeal against contractual penalties, the court announced on Thursday. Accordingly, the man has to pay more than 24,000 euros for illegal parking.
This was preceded by years of neighborhood disputes. The man repeatedly parked his car on the narrow residential street in such a way that his neighbors across the street found it very difficult to use their driveway. In an initial procedure, both parties reached a settlement in 2019. Accordingly, the man was allowed to park his car on the street at the disputed point for a maximum of ten minutes. A contractual penalty of 150 euros was agreed for each violation.
However, since he did not keep the agreement, the neighbors recorded the violations. These added up to 25,650 euros within three years. The Higher Regional Court only reduced the sum by 1,200 euros because it did not consider eight of the 194 violations to be proven.
