Saxony: Puppentheater Zwickau turns 70: International Festival

Zwickau (dpa / sn) - The puppet theater in Zwickau is 70 years old and invites you to an international festival on this occasion. To kick things off, the artists and guests will parade through the city center in a colorful parade on October 7th. Director Monika Gerboc announced on Tuesday that it would be colourful, loud and shrill. After that, on the second weekend in October, the house presents a program with several guest performances by ensembles from Germany, Slovakia, Spain and France. "We're bringing together the best productions that I know of and that are suitable for our stage," emphasized Gerboc.

The audience is offered well-known fairy tale material such as "Sleeping Beauty" and the piece "End.lich" based on the story of the "Bremer Town Musicians". But also the story of "Ritter Rost" is on the program and the play "The mechanic of the soul - Eh man hé" about a man and his five ghosts. Puppet theater in virtual reality is also shown. Here, at the beginning of the year, the people of Zwickau ventured into new territory with the Goethe ballad "Erlkönig". Final production is currently underway for a sequel to the ballad "Die Golddigger" by Emanuel Geibel. It premieres on December 16th.

The small stage has a total of 16 productions in its program this season. She wants to be an island in these turbulent times, where visitors can recharge their batteries and think about socially relevant topics from a distance, said Gerboc. A co-production with the Plauen-Zwickau theater of "The Neverending Story" is also on the schedule. Overall, puppet theater is offered for all age groups, emphasized Gerboc. This ranges from very small children from one year to pieces for young people and adults.
