Leipzig (dpa/sn) - There were riots at a demonstration in Leipzig on Saturday. During the rally on the market square, there were tangible clashes with counter-demonstrators, the police said on Sunday on request. In total, more than a dozen criminal charges were filed - including for bodily harm, property damage, use of license plates of unconstitutional organizations and hate speech.
On Saturday there was a rally registered by "Pax Europa" on the market square under the motto "Education about Political Islam". The action alliance "Leipzig takes place" had registered a counter-event. According to the police, there were verbal arguments between the two camps, followed by scuffles. The around 50 officers tried to separate the camps.
The events are now being processed and the videos of the event evaluated, said a police spokesman.
