Saxony: riots in the east of Leipzig: left-wing act suspected

Leipzig (dpa / sn) - After several people rioted in the east of Leipzig at the weekend, the state criminal investigation office and public prosecutor's office are assuming an allegedly politically left-motivated act. The reason for this is a front poster that was carried along, explained senior public prosecutor Ricardo Schulz on Tuesday at the request of the German Press Agency. However, the investigations into serious breaches of the peace are currently still directed against unknown persons. So far, no suspects could be identified or made known by name, it said.

The public prosecutor's office has not yet been able to provide information on the amount of property damage caused by the rioters, Schulz explained. Around 30 people dressed in black had damaged seven parked vehicles and an insurance office on Saturday evening. In addition, pyrotechnics were detonated and so-called metal crow's feet were scattered at an intersection. Crow's feet are spikes that can destroy vehicle tires - a police vehicle was damaged as a result. A construction site barrier was also set on fire. According to the police, the group rioted in several streets and called "Antifa" several times.
