Saxony: Saxore pushes plans for tin mine in the Ore Mountains

Breitenbrunn (dpa / sn) - The mining company Saxore is pushing ahead with its plans for the mining of tin in Breitenbrunn in the Ore Mountains. By March 2023, 25 core drillings in the Tellerhäuser district should provide further information about the tin deposits there, the company announced on Monday in Freiberg. The results then flowed into a feasibility study. It is intended to evaluate the profitability and the technical conditions for tin mining at the site.

"Now it's getting concrete," emphasized Managing Director Thomas Bünger. In the future, around 3000 tons of tin could be mined per year. According to the plans, the mine could start operating as early as 2025 and 100 to 150 jobs could be created. The ore is to be processed in Saxony, so that more jobs will be created in the region.

According to the German Raw Materials Agency, tin is of great importance for industry in Germany. Accordingly, Germany is the world's fourth largest consumer of tin. The most important producing countries are therefore Indonesia and China, followed by Peru.
