The BBC announced that Shane Richie will be returning to EastEnders this autumn as Alfie Moon, 20 years after his first appearance in the role.

With his cheeky personality and willingness to get into trouble, the character captured the hearts of viewers.

His last appearance on the soap was January 2019, when he fled Walford, after stealing money from Phil Mitchell.

Richie, age 58, stated that it was an "absolute honour and privilege" to be asked back to Albert Square TV station.

The entertainer who was a guest on ITV's I am a Celebrity... Get Me out of Here said, "I'm looking forward catching up with some cast mates and meeting new ones." 2020.

"Chris Clenshaw, the new executive producer, has been instrumental in bringing Alfie Moon back with wonderful storylines... who am I to say no?" !

Clenshaw said Richie was "one of the most beloved, loved and memorable characters in soap," adding that it was a pleasure to welcome Richie back to Walford.

Alfie has been absent from the Square for a lot of things, but you can still expect fun, frolics, and the occasional porky-pie wherever his floral shirts are." he stated. We are thrilled to have him back.

Alfie Moon was the first EastEnders character to make his debut in November 2002. He left EastEnders three years later. He returned to EastEnders in September 2010, following the lead of his wife Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace).

The fiery relationship was a source of many memorable moments. However, the marriage ended in 2018 when Hayley discovered that he was actually the father of Hayley's child.

Ex-landlord of Vic's famous Vic pub, the ex-landlord, left the show in a cloud after stealing money. He then gave it to Kat who later returned it to Phil.

His return news comes one week after it was revealed that EastEnders first ever drag queen will be making an appearance on Albert Square as a regular character.

Fans got a glimpse at Tara Misu as played by Matthew Morrison.

As part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the Prince of Wales as well as the Duchess of Cornwall made appearances on the soap last month.
