It's among the significant auto races at the state of Michigan, supporting NASCAR's looks at Michigan International Speedway, also has witnessed a growth in popularity over the past couple of decades.
The eighth and seventh races around the 2021 schedule would be the initial incidents because Helio Castronevas took the checkered flag in the Indy 500. The Brazilian has won three times at Detroit, tied for the most wins Belle Isle with Scott Dixon, who's won a minumum of one race at each of the previous two events.
Coming into the weekend, Spanish motorist Alex Palou directs the series in points, only a couple before Dixon. Palou began the Indy season strong with a win in the opening race in Alabama, together with Dixon making a win in Texas. Thus far, no driver has won over just one race this year.
