Thuringia: 1000 refugees from Ukraine found work

Gera (dpa/th) - Some of the war refugees from Ukraine have now started work in Thuringia. Between June 2022 and February 2022, around 1,000 Ukrainians had resigned from unemployment to gainful employment, the regional directorate of the Federal Employment Agency announced on Monday in Gera. A total of 6,300 people from the Ukraine are currently registered as unemployed in Thuringia, with the largest proportion being women (4,000).

Learning the German language, having professional qualifications recognized and childcare are the greatest challenges for Ukrainian women to be able to work in Germany, said the head of the regional directorate, Markus Behrens. The job centers have been taking care of war refugees in Thuringia since June. According to Behrens, counseling offers and funding options are so differentiated that they can help with the entry into working life.

The aim is to use the level of education women have acquired and to counteract the shortage of skilled workers in Thuringia. "We all know how important labor market integration is for arrival," said Thuringia's Labor Minister Heike Werner (left). Ukrainian women are generally well educated and were in the middle of their professional lives when the war broke out. "This makes childcare, living space and mobility all the more important in order to ensure successful integration in addition to the language." The state and municipalities, but also clubs and organizations are called upon to do this.
