Thuringia: Around 30 injured after the release of carbon monoxide in the go-kart track

Jena (dpa/th) - According to the police, around 30 people were slightly injured on Saturday in a kart track in Jena due to the release of carbon monoxide. Two karts collided, leaving one person with minor injuries, a police spokesman said. According to initial findings, around 30 people then complained about respiratory problems and headaches. Emergency services found an increased concentration of carbon monoxide. The go-kart track was initially closed.

The exact number of people injured has not yet been finally clarified, according to the police. The injured are said to be mostly adults. The "Ostthüringer Zeitung" had previously reported.

According to the Federal Environment Agency, carbon monoxide is an odourless, colorless and tasteless gas which, in high concentrations, acts as a strong respiratory poison. It forms when too little oxygen is available during combustion processes.
