Thuringia: Associations and municipalities comment on the school law

Erfurt (dpa/th) - At a public hearing in the Thuringian state parliament today, associations and municipalities are evaluating the parliamentary groups' plans to change the Thuringian school law. The Thuringian district association, the association of municipalities and cities, parent and student representatives as well as scientists and trade unions have been invited.

Several proposals for changes in the School Act are currently being discussed in Parliament. While red-red-green is aiming for a comprehensive reform package that also provides for controversial changes in teacher training, a draft by the CDU and FDP focuses on inclusion, the role of special schools and the will of parents.

The draft by the parliamentary groups of the Left, SPD and Greens provides, among other things, a legal basis for digital distance learning and the new administrative assistance in schools. In addition, the final exam in the tenth grade of high school is to be abolished and small primary schools are to be encouraged to cooperate more closely.

The opposition largely rejects the reform package. Red-Red-Green does not have its own majority in the state parliament and would be dependent on four votes from the ranks of the opposition. So far, however, no concrete compromise has emerged.
